Before David starts his day job as custom furniture maker at David Calvin Furniture Studio, he heads out on his bike (“Freddy”) to check out the early morning scenes and streets of St. Petersburg, Fla., where he and his wife Amy have loved living since 2014.
David’s reflective photography began with sunrise reflections off the calm waters of Tampa Bay in 2017. “I loved the symmetry,” he said. “And the subject matter is endless because no two sunrises are ever the same.”
His technique expanded to reflections from puddles in 2018 when he noticed palms fronds mirroring off street puddles after a rain. After a bit of experimenting to find the best method – and stance! – for capturing the reflective images, phuddles™ were born. (David’s advice: “Go low.”)
David’s fotos were taken with an iPhone 7 until November 2019 when he upgraded to an iPhone 11. He posts fotos almost daily to his social media channels and the I Love St. Pete Facebook page. Follow him, and if you see him riding, crouching, and shooting phuddles™ around town, please stop and say “hello.”
